A personal note about this piece:

I created this piece as part of a series using organic materials as the vehicle. For this piece, I dried a hydrangea flower head and then sculpted an intricate framework around it with jute string. I then photographed it, printed a washed-out print on watercolor paper, and then painted and added details with watercolor, gouache, and pencil.

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s mechanical sketches and observations of nature, Deconstructed Hydrangea more abstractly interprets and celebrates the invisible space and energy around the “finished” stage of a flower.–Æ

A personal note about this selkie painting:

This watercolor and ink painting depicts a mythological selkie shedding her skin to rescue and clothe a drowning young man. I also wrote the following poem to accompany it:

I want to hear you sing
In a language I don’t understand
Pull me like a suture
With your sanguine hennaed hand
I want to see your reflection
In waters where sirens swim
Disrobe me like a selkie
And wrap me in your skin
Sing to me
Sing to me
Sing to me
Crash me in the rocks
And drown me

A personal note about this piece:

Behind THE CLARK Museum in Williamstown, MA visitors can stroll through the pastoral fields of Stone Hill. I have frequented the rolling farm with my dog many times—often when the cows have been released to pasture. Several years in the making, this painting puts the viewer right into the scene, surrounded by the circular movement and friendly gazes of the animals. –Æ
