A personal note about this piece:

When I lived in the West Village in NYC in the 90’s I noticed the quickly disappearing remnants of old piers on the Hudson. By the time I decided to document a particular view in a painting the pier was already gone. This painting was done completely from memory with an impression of looking across the Hudson River from the West Village to New Jersey. The posts stand as monuments to another time.  –Æ

Sleeping Dog 2023
Andreas Engel

watercolor, ink, and pencil
9″x9″

Unavailable.

A personal note about this piece:

There’s something about the luxury of sleep that is captured in this painting of my dog, Caspian. As he slept, I quickly sketched out and loosely painted the composition, and later filled in the details.

I find the combination of pencil, ink, and paint provides for a lot of expression. –Æ

A personal note about this selkie painting:

This watercolor and ink painting depicts a mythological selkie shedding her skin to rescue and clothe a drowning young man. I also wrote the following poem to accompany it:

I want to hear you sing
In a language I don’t understand
Pull me like a suture
With your sanguine hennaed hand
I want to see your reflection
In waters where sirens swim
Disrobe me like a selkie
And wrap me in your skin
Sing to me
Sing to me
Sing to me
Crash me in the rocks
And drown me
