A personal note about this piece:
I created this piece as part of a series using organic materials as the vehicle. For this piece, I dried a hydrangea flower head and then sculpted an intricate framework around it with jute string. I then photographed it, printed a washed-out print on watercolor paper, and then painted and added details with watercolor, gouache, and pencil.
Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s mechanical sketches and observations of nature, Deconstructed Hydrangea more abstractly interprets and celebrates the invisible space and energy around the “finished” stage of a flower.–Æ
