Inkscapes

Original Art in Pen & ink by Andreas Engel

About the Inkscape Series

This series of original art began as an exploration of texture through fine-line rendering and quickly evolved into finished compositions. The first of the series, “Tree Study #1”, began as a study of the bark of an old weeping willow tree behind a gas station in Great Barrington, MA. The goal of the exercise was to build skills to render bark without a visual reference. This approach evolved to explore other visual elements, such as sky, water, flowers, insects, animals, and more. I later returned to “Tree Study #1” and expanded it to include a fuller, invented landscape, the result of which inspired a fuller series. Each piece is an invitation for the viewer to look in closer, to explore what is on the paper, and then go out to the world and be inspired to explore more.
