A personal note about this piece:
For this painting, I wanted to experiment with capturing a detailed watercolor scene in the rain. I began by photographing my backyard garden during an afternoon shower, using those images as reference. After sketching the composition onto watercolor paper, I painstakingly painted fine, clear raindrops across the entire surface using Mod Podge—a method I landed on after testing several others.
Because the drops were nearly invisible as I applied them, it was a bit of a gamble—I had no idea how it would turn out. The process alone took an entire day. Once the Mod Podge had dried, creating a resist effect, I painted over it with watercolor and hoped for the best.
For many reasons, this has likely been the most challenging watercolor I’ve ever made.
